Memphis is an underrated and incredible town in the American south, known as the worldwide home of the Blues and Birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll. There are countless hotspots and attractions that won’t only have you booking your next vacation there, but may even have you looking at Memphis Houses for Sale. Here are the top must-see attractions in Memphis, Tennessee.

Graceland

How could you come to Memphis and not visit the home of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll? This beautiful mansion, once home to Elvis Presley, is now one of the biggest tourist attractions in the country. Costumes, artifacts, personal mementos, and more are displayed, and there are opportunities for regular tours, seasonal tours (Christmas!), and even a chance to stay in the guest house on site.

The Stax Museum

The Stax Museum of American Soul Music is located at the former location of Stax Records, a famous label associated with Southern Soul Music. According to their website, “the Stax Museum pays special tribute to the artists who recorded there, as well as other American soul legends, with interactive exhibits, films, stage costumes, musical instruments, vintage recording equipment used at Stax, records, photographs, permanent and changing galleries, and a rare and amazing collection of more than 2,000 items of memorabilia and artifacts. It is an entity of the Soulsville Foundation, which also operates the Stax Music Academy and The Soulsville Charter School on the same campus.”

Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum

The Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum’s exhibition about the birth of rock and soul music was created by the Smithsonian Institution. It tells the story of musical pioneers who, for the love of music, overcame racial and socio-economic barriers to create the music that shook the entire world.

Beale Street

Beale Street in downtown Memphis is famous for its countless live music venues and incredible restaurants. You’ll never run out of choices if this is the area you are staying in. Voted as America’s most iconic street and the Home of the Blues, Beale Street remains Tennessee’s top tourist attraction.

B.B. King’s Blues Club

This legendary blues club is unmissable for music fans. When there are no artists booked to play (and there usually are), the house band makes sure there is live music every single night. The club’s interior is filled with artistic depictions of Memphis musical icons, and the Southern-themed food is to die for.

Overton Square

This revitalized neighborhood destination is a funky, vibrant hangout featuring five live-performance venues, a multiplex cinema, thriving businesses, and many restaurants. Overton has a historical presence in Memphis, being a figure of the nightlife scene since its formation in 1969.

These are only a few in a profoundly enormous selection of venues that one can experience music and its history. There are more museums, more clubs, and even street fairs that have live musicians playing more often than someone from out of town could believe. Memphis is not only a dream location to visit, but an ideal location to live if you love music.
