Furious 7, the latest in the Fast&Furious series, was a massive success at the box office. With the reported budget of $190 million it grossed more than $1.5 billion, which is more than twice than its predecessor. Great performance at the box office makes Furious 7 the biggest movie of the year, although Avengers: The Age of Ultron is only some $150 million behind (as of 10th June 2015, source: BoxOfficeMojo.com).
The plot of Furious 7 is similarly trivial as in other instalments, although Paul Walker’s death added another dimension to the movie. During the movie you can’t really escape the feeling that the movie is kind of goodbye letter to Paul Walker.
Product placement in Furious 7 looks excessive, with tens of cars having a lot of screen time, although no car stands out in particular. Abu Dhabi’s role is significant, although those scenes could be shot in some other cities as well, but you can sense it that Abu Dhabi is there for a reason.
However, the biggest in-your-face product placement came from Corona.
Corona
In Fast And Furious 6 we saw the guys sipping Corona beer at the barbecue party. Furious 7 went a step further. Corona had a significant part in the conversation between Dom (Vin Diesel) and Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell).
Mr. Nobody: “Belgian ale. Man, those monks got it right. I don’t know about the whole celibacy thing, but when it comes to beer… Would you like one?”
Dom: “I’m more of a Corona man myself.”
Corona was mentioned a couple of times more, just to enhance our view of Dom as the Corona man.
Cars
Here are just some of the cars seen in Furious 7: Maserati, Chrysler, Porsche, Aston Martin, Dodge, Chevrolet, … and Lykan HyperSport, the first supercar to be produced in the Middle East.
Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi followed the role Dubai took with Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Some amazing action scenes were shot at Etihad Towers.
Mobile phones
The team were using Samsungs and a Windows phone.
Monster
Monster energy drinks logo could be seen at Race Wars.
Under Armour
The Rock’s role was minor in Furious 7, but he was wearing Under Armour T-shirt throughout the movie. Maybe it was the same shirt as in Fast And Furious 6. :)
