There was an interesting object in the 18th episode of Modern Family‘s fourth season: a coffee machine in Jay’s and Gloria’s kitchen.
At the first glance I thought: it must be Jura. As a matter of fact … it was.
After a quick review and a screen capture I realized that it was indeed Jura’s coffee machine and after a few minutes I found out the model too: I think it’s Jura Impressa F8.
Jura or Jura Elektroapparate AG is a Swiss developer and distributor of home appliances and best known for its fully automatic espresso machines. Jura doesn’t made low-end coffee machines and has a strong focus on design on its appliances.
Jura’s model Impressa F8 is an old model which has been discontinued. The most similar model – Impressa F50 Classic – costs $1,490 on Amazon.com or £1,049.99 on Amazon.co.uk.
Considering the facts that Jay and Gloria live in a big house, Jay drives an Audi A8 and their teenage son Manny is a heavy coffee drinker (!?) it’s totally expected that they own a Jura coffee machine.
I wouldn’t say that Jura’s coffee machine is product placement, because I don’t think I’ve spotted it before. I would say it’s just a great piece of work by Modern Family’s prop team.
Jura coffee machine had an appearance in Stieg Larsson’s bestseller The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. More on Jura’s appearance in Millennium trilogy in the blog post The Girl Who played with IKEA.
