I’ve written several times about TV shows that somehow ignore the second screen. The second screen refers to the use of a smarthphone or a tablet to provide an enhanced viewing experience for content on another device, such as a television. Basically second screen refers to the use of tablets/smartphones to provide interactive features during “linear” content, i.e. a television program.

The Big Bang Theory is an example of TV shows that hasn’t used all possibilities of the second screen. I published blog posts about characters mentioned YouTube videos in the shows, however there were no such videos in “real life”. Check blog posts Where is Marnie’s video for What I Am?, Astronaut screams for nine minutes, Why is the band Questionable Goods from the TV show Girls without a website? or As seen on Evil Wil Wheaton for more examples.

In the 21st episode of The Big Bang Theory’s season 7 Sheldon said before seeing the fortune teller:

“If I wanted to waste my time on nonsense,

I’d follow Leonard on Instagram.”

You know what that means in the time of second screen? Checking Instagram for Leonard’s profile.

But there isn’t one. At least not an official one.

On The Big Bang Theory’s official website there are only links to Twitter, Facebook and GooglePlus profiles.

Another missed opportunity for the creators of the show?
