A few days ago I got information that Slovenian kitchen appliance producer Gorenje found their microwave oven in The Martian. I have checked product placement from the movie and wrote blog post Product placement in pictures: The Martian, but I haven’t seen the aforementioned oven.
Well, I’ve checked the movie again and finally I found it. It was in the kitchen on Hermes space ship (you can see it on the picture below in the top right corner).
Apparently Gorenje didn’t know anything about that product placement. They wrote on their website:
“Gorenje microwave oven from the design line Ora-Ïto stars as a vital piece of equipment for space travel. … In one of the scenes at the space station a Gorenje microwave oven from the Ora-Ïto design line can be seen. Being recognized by the makers of the film as an essential piece of equipment in space travel, the Gorenje microwave oven with its timeless design seamlessly blends into the futuristic space station, set in the year 2035. … Following this unexpected interplanetary promotion, Gorenje might in the future decide to add to their range of design home appliances some additional ones. Considering the excellent reference, possibly a space-themed one.”

What can I say … finally a Slovenian product in a Hollywood blockbuster. :)
