Stella

When I was watching the movie On the Waterfront I remembered another classic Marlon Brando performance. It was in the movie A Streetcar Named Desire, a 1951 production, adapted from Tennesse Williams play and directed by Elia Kazan.

Blanche DuBois (Vivien Leigh) is a mentally vulnerable and emotionally exhausted sometime Southern belle, who experiences some sort of shock when she goes to stay with her sister Stella (Kim Hunter) in New Orleans. In the swampy, sleazy and smelly atmosphere of the Big Easy, she meets Stanley Kowalski (Marlon Brando), her sister's handsome but brutal husband. The stage is set for a conflict that could destroy them all.

One of the most memorable and famous scenes from the movie occurred when Stanley yells “Hey Stella”. It's one of the most famous cries that have echoed in theaters and movie theaters for decades.

On this day two years ago Norwegian rock singer Ida Maria released her single Stella. This song is about a 43-year old hooker and wanting to “give her the world” if she’d just stay with you tonight.

So after watching both clips do you think that there is some connection between Marlon Brando and Ida Maria or were you thinking about Stella Artois ;)
